The New Year started on a tragic note in Pasay City after a resident was killed in a predawn fire there Sunday, fire safety officials said.
Bureau of Fire Protection Metro Manila spokesman Chief Inspector Renato Marcial cited initial reports identifying the fatality as Danny Lipata, 27.
"We're still investigating the cause of the fire. This is just the initial report," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the fire started at a residential area in Tindera 1, Barangay 192, Pasay City.
Citing initial reports, he said the fire reached the second alarm.
Earlier Sunday, another fire razed at least 30 houses in a compound behind the house of former Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad.
