GMA International: Ultra marathoner Cesar Guarin shares Christmas spirit with Tondo kids

The Global Run Team of Filipino ultra marathoner Cesar Guarin has teamed up with various groups like GMA International in sharing the spirit of Christmas to 100 children from the impoverished section of Tondo, Manila. On December 23, the the Global Run Team partnered with generous individuals and foundations to give grocery bags, books, and clothes to 100 children from the poorest sections of Barangay 105, Sitio Damayan, Tondo. Guarin, president and general manager of CEJOGUA Sports Corporation (CSC), is set to become the first Filipino, first Asian, and fourth person in history to run around the world.

The popular line of sports wear "iSports BOTAK, " is the premiere trademark of CSC.

An alumnus of the University of the Philippines, Guarin flew to Sydney, Australia on October 15 last year for the fifth leg of his 23,000-kilometer (km) "Global Run" project.  He completed the Australia leg of his global run after 41 days, covering more than 2,000 kilometers. He has already finished the first four legs of his Global Run:

  • Trans Pilipinas in 1983;
  • Trans USA in 1985;
  • Trans Europe in 1992; and
  • US-Canada in 2009. 
The Global Run is considered as the world's toughest run ever.

The one-of-a-kind marathon began in 1983 and will end in 2016.

Guarin has run 11,583 kilometers in the four legs of his ultra marathon, which he embarked on after an injury disqualified him joining the Olympics.
Generous donors According to the Facebook page of "The Global Run Team," the generous donors who supported the Christmas gift-giving in Tondo were: Von Rondilla of Munting Hiling, Roxanne Oquendo, Vike Llave, Joanne Arataquio of KIDS Foundation, Sandy Ocampo of Para sa Bata, Lia Manalac - Castillo, Cesar Apolinario, Sandra Aguinaldo, Mariz Umali, Raffy Tima and Julius Segovia of GMA 7, Charice Solomon of GMA 7 artist, Nina Corpuz of ABS CBN, members of the Manila DSWD District 1, Brgy. Chairman Luisito Reyes of Brgy. 105, and members of the Global Run Team, Cesar Guarin, George Tan, Joon Malicse, Czar Balayon and Gid Guarin. Several Filipino communities and organizations in Melbourne, Albury, Wanggaratta, Canberra, Sydney, New Castle, Port Macquarie, Gold Coast, Brisbane also supported The Global Run Team's "Batang Pangarap" projects. - GMA News
