SWS: Binay gets 'excellent' year-end rating; Corona falls to 'poor'
Like President Benigno Aquino III, Vice President Jejomar Binay enjoyed a year-end boost in his ratings, according to a new survey by pollster Social Weather Stations.
The SWS said Binay got a December net satisfaction score of +70 (77 percent satisfied minus 7 percent dissatisfied), seven points up from September last year.
In its Dec. 3–7 survey results posted on its media partner BusinessWorld, the SWS said the rating brought Binay back to “excellent” territory.
On the other hand, Chief Justice Renato Corona's year-end rating fell into "poor" territory with a 14-point drop, it said.
During the survey period, Corona had been impeached at the House of Representatives, and was facing Senate impeachment trial, which is scheduled to start on January 16.
However, Binay's rating was still short of his March 2011 record of +74, the SWS said.
Binay thus topped Aquino’s two-point gain to +58 (71 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied) last month, which the SWS considers “very good.”
SWS classifies net satisfaction scores of +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69,“very good”; +30 to +49, “good; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -- 50 to -- 69 “very bad”; and -70 and below as “execrable.”
Highest among officials in line of succession
Binay’s score in the Dec. 3–7 poll was the highest among officials in the line of succession from the presidency, the SWS said.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile continued to be rated “good” at +36 (53 percent satisfied, 17 percent dissatisfied), while House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. stayed “neutral” at +8 (33 percent satisfied, 25 percent dissatisfied).
On the other hand, Chief Justice Renato Corona plunged into “poor” territory with a 14-point fall to -14 (21 percent satisfied, 35 percent dissatisfied).
Declines in institutions
The SWS survey also noted slight declines in the satisfaction ratings of the Senate, House, Supreme Court and the Cabinet, although they remained positive.
The Senate's score fell six points to a merely “good” +44 (59 percent satisfied, 15 percent dissatisfied), the House lost four to +27 (46 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied) to fall to “moderate.”
On the other hand, the Supreme Court dropped eight to a still “moderate” +21 (46 percent satisfied, 25 percent dissatisfied), and the Cabinet was also rated “moderate” at +22 (43 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied), two points lower from September.
