MMDA preparing for Jan. 15 Santo Niño feast in Tondo

Expecting traffic in the area on Sunday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is preparing traffic ang medical teams for the Feast of the Santo Niño (Christ Child) in Manila's Tondo district.   MMDA assistant general manager for operations Emerson Carlos said they have identified possible chokepoints in the area for Sunday's festivities, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.   The report quoted Carlos as saying the MMDA is ready to send traffic aides to areas like Road 10, Jose Abad Santos Street, Tayuman, Pritil, Balut and Velasquez.   He said the MMDA is ready to formally discuss the arrangements with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.   The report quoted Carlos as saying the MMDA is also ready to send rescue and medical units to the area.   Also, Carlos said the agency plans to coordinate with organizers, including whether they plan to push through with their fluvial parade.   The yearly fiesta in Tondo is held on the third Sunday of January, but has been marred by traffic as well as violent incidents involving drunk and unruly revelers. - VVP, GMA News
