Facebook creates music chatroom as it launches 'Listen With' feature
Facebook users can now listen to the same music as their friends even if they are not in the same room after the social networking giant launched a new "Listen With" feature.
Product designer Alexandre Roche said the feature allows Facebook users to listen together in a group while one of them plays DJ.
"You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time—so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you're jamming out at a performance or dance club," Roche said in a blog post.
Roche said one can look for the music note in the chat sidebar to see who among one's friends are listening to music.
To listen with a friend, one can hover over their name, and click the "Listen With" button. The music will play through the service the friend is using.
"When a new song plays, you'll come along for the ride, discovering new music while your friend DJs for you," Roche said.
A Facebook user will also have the option to chat about what one is listening to. As other people start listening along, they'll join the party in a group chat, Roche said.
One can also control who one is listening along with through one's settings.
A separate article on tech site Mashable likened the feature to a chatroom in which to share songs.
"Multiple people will be able to listen in on one friend’s music, and the entire group will be able chat together. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a lot like Turntable.fm without the avatars or the 'awesome' button," it said. — RSJ, GMA News
