Transport groups start noise barrage vs oil price hikes
Militant transport groups started Wednesday noon a noise barrage in a busy district in Quezon City to protest the recent spate of fuel price hikes. The groups led by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) said this was the start of weekly noise barrage activity, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. The barrage was held along Aurora Boulevard in Cubao, a busy area in Quezon City. PISTON and its allies condemned the recent rounds of fuel price hikes – at least four for this month alone, the report added. PISTON's president George San Mateo said Wednesday's action is a buildup to a nationally coordinated protest, but he did not give details about the supposed national protest. San Mateo said transport operators can no longer bear the fuel price hikes, and that the price rollback earlier this week was not enough. — LBG, GMA News
