Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Wednesday had to leave the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona early after her blood pressure went up.

Santiago's media relations officer Tom Tolibas said at around 3:30 p.m., the feisty senator left the Senate session hall, where the impeachment trial was being held, when she started having symptoms of hypertension.

Tolibas said Senate doctor Renato Sison Jr. checked Santiago at the Senate lounge and found her blood pressure to be at 180/90.

Tolibas said Santiago immediately went home after the check-up.

Santiago was absent during the first week of the trial because of hypertension.  She went back to work on Tuesday, January 24.

Earlier in the day, Santiago scolded and even threatened to disqualify prosecutor Arthur Lim from the proceedings after he supposedly challenged her authority. - VVP, GMA News
