Results on Llamas probe may be out this week — Palace
Except for saying that the initial results may come out this week, Malacañang on Sunday remained mum on the investigation on presidential political adviser Ronald Llamas, who was seen buying pirated discs in Quezon City last week.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte promised that once the “notice” on the investigation comes out, the Palace will divulge it to the media immediately.
“Siguro by next week meron nang notice sa kanya... Sandali lang ‘yan but I won’t want to give a definite date. Ang notice ‘pag lumabas na ibabahagi namin sa inyo,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.
Valte did not say who is handling the investigation, only that it is administrative in nature.
Llamas, who had figured in a controversy last year when his SUV yielded a high-powered firearm, was caught on camera buying pirated discs at a mall in Quezon City.
When asked who is handling the investigation, Valte said she does not know because she was only informed by presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda that an investigation is ongoing.
“Sabi sa amin may na-assign pero hindi sinabi sa amin sino. Hintayin natin. Ang assurance sa amin gumugulong na ang investigation,” Valte said.
Calls for ouster deflected
Valte also deflected calls for Llamas’ ouster, saying the Palace is aware of such calls but would rather wait for the result of the investigation.
“Naintindihan natin maraming sector nanawagan sa ouster ni Secretary Llamas dahil sa insidente sa DVD. Gumugulong ang investigation at hintayin natin ang magiging resulta,” she said.
She also said she does not know if Llamas had talked to President Benigno Aquino III about the incident. Llamas is perceived to be close to Aquino because of his fondness for firearms.
Valte downplayed the controversy, saying Aquino has many more pressing matters to attend to.
‘Tuwid na daan’
Meanwhile, Valte deflected a reported call by retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz for Aquino to drop his “tuwid na daan (straight path)” slogan because of his inability to discipline Llamas.
“Kung totoo yan, assuming it’s true, hindi na dapat nagpatawag ng investigation kung maniniwala tayo sa statement na ‘yan ... (H)uwag natin pangunahan at tingnan natin ang magiging resulta,” she said. — KBK, GMA News
