DOLE prepares P6.9-M assistance to workers affected by 'Sendong'
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is preparing P6.912 million in funds to assist workers in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities, the areas hit hardest by tropical storm "Sendong" (international name: Washi) last year.
In a news release, DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the amount includes:
“Through these DOLE programs, we want to strengthen the morale of our workers and help them move forward with their lives,” Baldoz said.
Wages
Baldoz said the P6.912 million should cover the P3.225 million in wages for the displaced worker-beneficiaries.
The displaced workers will be paid the minimum wage of P215 per day for eight hours of community and rural rehabilitation work in the affected areas.
According to the DOLE, the rehabilitation work includes declogging, clearing, and cleaning of communities, schools, and evacuation centers for 15 days.
Aside from the wages, the amount will also be used for the purchase of working tools and other personal protective equipment.
"The EEP is expected to benefit 1,000 displaced workers. The qualified beneficiaries will come from the barangays of Macasandig, Carmen, Balulang, Consolacion and Iponan in Cagayan de Oro City, and in Hinaplonan, Santiago, Mahayhay, Sta. - P3.073 million for livelihood assistance (jigs and tools as starter kits).
