NCAA Volleyball: Lady Stags exit with a win, Lady Altas and Lady Knights contest title

Last year’s champion in the women’s division, the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags, settled for third place, as they closed their campaign with a 25-21, 30-28, 15-25, 25-21 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College, Monday at the end of the round-robin semifinals of the 87th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Two-time MVP Analyn Joy Benito led the Lady Stags in her last playing year to their third place finish with 29 hits, while Dafna Robinos added 14 hits.

Charmille Belleza led the Lady Generals with 20 points while Annabelle Dionela added 10 hits.

The Roger Gorayeb coached Lady Stags reigned over the women’s division in the last six years, but failed to keep up the feat this season.

The Lady Generals on the other end failed to score a single win in the round-robin semis to settle for fourth place.

It will be season host and eliminations topnotcher University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas and Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights who will meet in the best of three finals starting on Friday, February 3.

In the men’s division, the San Beda College Red Lions made it to the finals for the third straight year as they beat the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21.

The Red Lions will meet early finalist and defending champion University of Perpetual Altas.

Meanwhile in the juniors division, the San Sebastian High School Staglets will face the Emilio Aguinaldo College Brigadiers, a team that topped the standings in the elimination round,  in the Finals, after beating the Arellano Baby Chiefs, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-21, for the last Finals berth. - AMD, GMA News
