Cebu jail officer killed in ambush
Unidentified armed men attacked and shot dead an officer of the Cebu City Jail in Liloan town in Cebu late on Monday, a radio report said on Tuesday.
The station Radyo Mo Nationwide (RMN) said authorities are now tracking down the armed men who gunned down Jail Officer Leo Labata while he was on his way home from work.
The RMN report quoted city jail warden Superintendent Johnson Calub as saying they are not discounting the possibility the killing may be work-related.
Calub also said they are verifying if the victim had received death threats before he was killed.
The RMN report also said witnesses have informed police that the suspects did not bother to cover their faces after gunning down the jail officer. - VVP, GMA News
