Erap goes to Senate to provide insights on impeachment trial

February 1, 2012 1:30pm
Once the subject of an impeachment trial himself, former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada on Wednesday was at the Senate as a guest of a television news program to provide insights about the Corona impeachment trial.

Estrada arrived shortly past 1:00 p.m. but declined giving media interviews and immediately proceeded to the Senate building in Pasay City.

The impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Renato Corona are being conducted at the Senate.

During his term as president, Estrada became the subject of an impeachment trial for allegedly receiving payoffs from the illegal numbers game jueteng.

The trial which started in late 2000 was eventually aborted after Estrada was ousted through a mass uprising dubed as "EDSA Dos" in January 2001. - VVP, GMA News
