Consumers and motorists are in for an early February whammy as more oil companies raised the prices of liquefied petroleum gas and auto LPG Thursday.
LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA) party-list Rep. Arnel Ty said this is due to a hike in the world price of LPG, even as he said they will not likely raise prices again this month.
"Kino-confirm ko ang presyo sa international market na umangat ng $140, which is around $1,030 na per metric ton," Ty said in an interview on dzBB radio.
A separate dzBB report said Shell and Petron raised prices of their LPG early Thursday. Petron also raised prices of its auto LPG products.
It said Shell and Petron raised prices by P6.70 per kilo or about P73 per 11-kg tank. Ty said this may mean Shell and Petron LPG 11-kg tanks may now cost P840 to P850 each.
The dzBB report said Petron also raised prices of its auto LPG by P3.75 per liter.
Earlier, LPG supplier Liquigaz raised its prices by P5 per kilo, bringing the price of an 11-kilogram cylinder up by P55.
On the other hand, Ty said LPGMA members also raised their prices by about P6.50 per kilo, but added the prices of their 11-kg tanks are still lower, ranging from P730 to P760.
Ty said auto LPG prices may go up by an average of P3.80 per liter, with the adjusted prices ranging from P34.80 to P34.90 per liter.
But Ty said the LPGMA is no longer likely to adjust prices for the rest of the month, citing a circular from the Department of Energy limiting price adjustments by LPG dealers to once a month.
"Hindi kami kagaya ng gas na dalawa o tatlong beses sa isang linggo. Ang LPG strictly ini-implement at ino-observe ang circular ng DOE. Once a month lang ang ginagalaw," he said. –KG, GMA News
