A five-year-old girl who could not walk or talk died in a fire that razed her family's house in Sitio Candalaba in Cabacungan village in La Castellana town in Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

Police said the girl, Jesil Sison, could not get out of the house and was trapped, according to a report of Visayan Daily Star Thursday.

Jesil's mother Gemma said the victim was with her siblings LJ, 8, Eliza Mae, 7, Danny 3, and Dante, 1 when the fire occurred.

She added she and her husband were at work at the time.

Gemma said LJ had lighted a candle and accidentally dropped it. The fire quickly spread throughout the hut. The children ran out of the house, leaving Jesil behind.

For his part, La Castellana Mayor Alberto Nicor said the town's fire truck could not get to the area in time as there was no accessible road.

Nicor said the victim was buried at the town’s public cemetery.

The Sisons are now temporarily staying in the house of a relative. — LBG, GMA News
