Cop, 4 others linked to P2.5-m hijack incident arrested
With the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, police arrested a colleague and four others in Manila over the weekend for a P2.5-million hijacking that took place late last month.
The leader of the gang was initially identified as PO1 Sherwin Casauran, who is assigned to the Metro Manila police in Taguig City, radio dzBB reported early Sunday.
Also arrested were Rodrigo Peralta, 34; Nico Manlapaz, 19; Alfredo Dimapilis, 42; and Elias Villamer.
An investigation showed the hijacking occurred last Jan. 28, when two men in police uniform aboard a black Civic-type sedan blocked the path of a truck of Real Time Movers and Logistics Inc.
The "policemen" bound truck crew Federico Soriano and Gerald Ballesteros and left them in Montalban town in Rizal province.
Police investigators used GPS equipment to trace the whereabouts of the hijacked truck and caught the suspects transferring its cargo to another truck.
They also traced the sedan's license plate number to Casauran, the report said.
An earlier report indicated that the hijacking incident took place on Edsa-Balintawak area in Quezon City, while a 10-wheeler cargo truck (TXD-536) was on its way to Cabanatuan City to deliver some P2.5 million worth of Unilever products. — LBG, GMA Newss
