Preparations for Iggy's wake in Negros put on hold after legal row
Preparations for the wake of the late Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo Jr. in Negros Occidental were put on hold after a legal row that erupted between his legal wife and his partner.
A report of the Visayan Daily Star on Monday quoted Negros Occidental board member Melvin Ibañez as saying the Arroyo family will take care of the lawmaker's remains, including making arrangements for his wake and funeral.
Ibañez, a close friend and political ally of the late congressman, said, "Iggy should be given peace and a dignified funeral."
Rep. Arroyo died in London after a long battle with cirrhosis of the liver.
Last week Ibañez said Rep. Arroyo’s body was expected to be brought to Negros Occidental this week so that his constituents could pay their last respects to him.
A wake had been prepared in Binalbagan town before his burial at his family’s mausoleum at the North Cemetery in Manila on Saturday.
However, when Arroyo's widow Aleli went to the United Kingdom to get his remains to have them repatriated to the Philippines last weekend, she was blocked by a suit filed by Arroyo's partner Grace Ibuna.
