The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) is now accepting nominations for two major awards for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for this year. These awards are the:
2012 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas, and
2012 Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Awards.
In Hong Kong, the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) said the CFO is accepting nominations for the presidential awards. Those seeking more information can visit www.2012presidentialawards.cfo.gov.ph. The Consulate General said the deadline for submission of nominations is on June 15. "Instituted in 1991, the Presidential Awards is a biennial search to recognize exceptional individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to Philippine progress and development. The Awards are also conferred on overseas Filipinos who have shown excellence and distinction in their work or profession," the PCG said. The awards have so far been conferred on 314 overseas-based individuals and organizations from 44 countries and territories, including some Filipinos and groups in Hong Kong such as the:
Balikatan sa Kaunlaran–Hong Kong Council
Hong Kong Bayanihan Trust
National Organization of Professional Teachers–Hong Kong
Angel Ramos, and
Lourdes Salazar.
MAM awards Meanwhile, the CFO is also accepting nominations for the 2012 MAM Awards. The deadline for submission of nominations is on September 30, 2012. Conceived in 2011, the MAM Awards aim to recognize the role of media in the promotion of migration and development. "Eligible for the Awards are works by any individual, government and private media outlets, institutions and practitioners in the fields of print, radio, movie and television, advertising and Internet based in the Philippines and abroad," the PCG said. The entries must have:
raised public awareness on issues on Filipino migration,
advocated the cause of Filipinos overseas, and
promoted a positive image of Filipinos overseas.
