Taxi driver robbed, suspects die in encounter with Manila cops
Two suspected robbers who held up a taxi driver were shot dead in an encounter with police in Manila’s Sta. Ana district before dawn Wednesday.
Police are verifying information the two had been linked to a string of robberies, including those targeting cabbies in the area, radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported.
Recovered from the two were cal-.38 and cal-.22 handguns, the report said.
Initial investigation showed the two boarded a taxi driven by Regente Rosalia in Mandaluyong City and declared the holdup as the taxi arrived at New Panaderos in Manila’s Sta. Ana area.
After being divested of his valuables, Rosalia sought help from the Manila Police District’s Station 6, which conducted a follow-up operation.
When a police mobile team chanced on the two at the corner of Sta. Clara and Isabel Streets in Sta. Ana, the two allegedly drew their firearms, prompting police to shoot. — ELR, GMA News
