Phivolcs equipment thief falls
A thief who stole monitoring equipment of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in Bicol was finally arrested, after he tried to sell the stolen items at a junk shop.
Police arrested the suspect initially identified as Jomar Ramirez after the junk shop owner informed police about the attempted sale, radio dzBB reported early Wednesday.
Seized from Ramirez was a battery for equipment used to monitor Mayon Volcano, the report quoted Albay police chief Senior Superintendent William Macavinta as saying.
A separate report on dzRH radio described Ramirez as 22 years old and a resident of Sto. Domingo town in Albay.
An investigation showed the Phivolcs repeater station in Sto. Domingo in Albay last week, taking several pieces of equipment.
The suspects allegedly took two 4D batteries and cable wires before escaping on foot. — LBG, GMA News
