Heavy equipment at Kidapawan quarry site set on fire by armed men
A band of unidentified, heavily armed men attacked a quarry in Barangay San Roque in Kidapawan, North Cotabato Friday and set on fire five heavy equipment of the private construction firm at the site, according to local police.
Investigators said the suspects—allegedly communist rebels—poured gasoline and set ablaze three dump trucks, a pay loader and a backhoe of the Ricardo dela Cruz Interior Construction (RDCIC) firm. The damage estimate was P7 million,
The police also said the armed men, who rode three motorcycles, were armed with two baby armalites, three caliber 45 pistols and an Uzi.
“This is usually what happens when foreign-owned construction firms make business here. They usually get extortion threats from different groups,” said City Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco.
“Just like what happened to a Chinese-owned firm whose vehicles were burned last year by the NPAs in nearby Bansalan town in Davao del Sur,” the mayor added. — ELR, GMA News
