PHL files protest vs Argentina over attack on Pinoy boxer
The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires has already filed a protest with Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the attack on a Filipino boxer and members of his team in Argentina.
In a text message, Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson Raul Hernandez said "our embassy in Buenos Aires filed a protest on Feb. 13 after the attack on Feb. 11, which placed the safety and wellbeing of boxer Johnriel Casimero and his team at great danger."
"We are now waiting for their explanation and response," he said.
On the same day, the deputy chief of mission of the Argentine Embassy in Manila apologized to the DFA about the incident, Hernandez said.
"The Ambassador of Argentina in Manila has been summoned to the DFA this [Wednesday] afternoon to express our concern about the riot and ask for explanation of the action taken by the Argentine government on the incident," he added.
PHL Embassy in Buenos Aires reported that the riot lasted for over ten minutes.
According to Hernandez, Argentine police secured and escorted Casimero and his team to their hotel and stood guard until morning to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, the Philippines Senate on Wednesday decided to demand that the DFA recall the Philippine ambassador to Argentina after the incident.
