NDRRMC: 1 missing as motor banca capsizes off Bicol
At least one fisherman was reported missing after a motor boat he and five colleagues were riding capsized off Bicol amid heavy rain brought by a low-pressure area, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday night. In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC identified the missing person as Cading Caballero, a crew member of the motor banca that capsized off Barangay 5 in Mercedes, Camarines Norte. The NDRRMC said the boat capsized at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. It was loaded with bamboo at the time. But it said Caballero's colleagues were recovered alive and have returned to their respective families. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC also said the rain and floods brought by the low-pressure area (LPA) early this week affected 124 families or 569 people in Caraga and Region 10 in Mindanao. The NDRRMC said landslides at Sitio Baling Tuling, Brgy. Kahupian in Sogod, Southern Leyte rendered roads and bridges connecting the towns of Mahaplag, Leyte and Sogod, Southern Leyte impassable to four-wheeled vehicles. Death toll due to LPA In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatalities were siblings who drowned in flash floods in Davao Oriental, bringing to four the death toll due to this week's LPA. Esmael Ongcay Jr., 6, and Edjean Ongcay, 5, drowned last Feb. 13 due to flash floods that hit their home in Mabini village in Manay town in Davao Oriental, the NDRRMC said. The earlier fatalities had been identified as Lea Alarcio, 18, of Camarines Sur; and Agripina Minante, 81, of Lagonoy, Camarines Sur. Injured was one Jocelyn Bamor, 46, who was hurt while crossing the Cagsawa River. The NDRRMC said the LPA affected 1,492 families or 7,517 people. — LBG, GMA News
