Taiwan's representative to the Philippines asked Philippine officials on Saturday to take into custody soonest a policeman linked to the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese woman in Manila's Chinatown district last January.

Raymond Wang, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office's representative in Manila, said his office had requested the Philippine National Police to get the suspect.

Wang also extended condolences to the family of the woman, according to a report on Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA).

"According to a police investigation, the perpetrator was an active duty policeman," the CNA report added.

The CNA report identified the woman only by her surname Hsu. It said she was 29 years old.

It said Hsu was robbed and shot in Chinatown last Jan. 11. Her brother and father were also injured in the incident, the report added.

The murdered woman's father, who is involved in the onion trade, has been based in the Philippines for several decades.

On the other hand, Wang also urged the local government to install security monitoring systems to improve the city's safety. — LBG, GMA News
