Report: Aquino defends ‘tirades’ vs Corona
President Benigno Aquino III on Sunday defended his public criticisms against impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona in past days, saying his tirades against the chief justice were never personal.
A report on government-run dzRB radio quoted Aquino as saying he saw nothing wrong with his claims, adding the criticisms were within the essence of democracy.
He added his charges were directed not at Corona’s person but at the “system” of corruption.
The president was in Aurora province to inaugurate a P509-million hospital funded by the Japanese government.
On the other hand, Aquino was quoted in the report as refuting Corona’s challenge to make public his psychological records, saying it had been made an issue against him in the 2010 presidential race.
Aquino also downplayed calls for him to publicize his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
Aquino likewise said he is not worried by a reported plan by the Iglesia ni Cristo to hold a religious gathering in Manila, saying it was not a political rally in the first place. — LBG, GMA News
