1 killed in predawn QC fire
A woman was killed in a predawn fire that hit her house inside a residential compound in the Novaliches area in Quezon City Tuesday.
The fire started at 3:20 a.m. and reached the fourth alarm before firefighters placed it under control at 4 a.m., radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.
Investigators initially identified the fatality as a certain Kayamala Hassana Ali, who was trapped in her house at Rosal Street in a subdivision in Novaliches.
Arson investigators are verifying information the Ali tried to go back inside her house to save her belongings but was not able to make it out alive.
Investigators are also looking into information that an electrical short circuit caused the fire.
Meanwhile, a fire volunteer was injured while 20 houses were razed in a fire that hit a residential area in Pasay City Monday afternoon.
A separate report on dzBB said the fire occurred at Barangay 177 in the city's Malibay district.
The report said a fire volunteer initially identified as Rodel de Guzman was injured after falling off the third floor of a house when residents tried to wrest the fire hose away from him.
The fire reached the fourth alarm and lasted at least an hour. Arson investigators are verifying information the fire stemmed from an overheating electric fan. — RSJ, GMA News
