PARIS  - Ludovic Bource, who composed the score for the Oscar-tipped French silent movie "The Artist," hopes to set to music the mammoth scientific quest to find the Higgs Boson, also known as the "God particle."

 

After scoring four movies for French director Michel Hazanavicius, earning Golden Globe and BAFTA awards and an Oscar nomination for his work on "The Artist," the 41-year-old composer told AFP he has several projects on the boil.

 

"I can't wait to get back to composing. I have a personal project that I feel strongly about," he said. "I would like to finish a symphonic work that is all about the Higgs Boson."

 

Bource said he was fascinated by the science and the "passion" driving armies of researchers across the world who are searching for the elusive particle, the missing link in sub-atomic particle theory.

 

His dream, he said, would be to visit the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, home to a giant atom smasher created to try to find the Higgs Boson.

 

Named after a British scientist who suggested its existence in the 1960s, the Higgs Boson is believed to confer mass. It has been dubbed the "God particle" because it is thought to be everywhere, but it has proved agonisingly hard to find.

 

A surprise hit, "The Artist" has been nominated for 10 Oscars, including best picture and best director, and has made its lead actor Jean Dujardin the talk of Hollywood. — Agence France Presse
