PAGASA: Lent off to 'cool' start
The Lenten season, which Filipinos have come to associate with the fierce summer heat, is off to a relatively cool start this year, state weather forecasters said Wednesday.
Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Elvie Enriquez said the northeast monsoon still remains and may bring occasional rain.
"'Pag sinabing Semana, synonymous ‘yan sa tag-araw. (Pero) magkakaroon pa rin ng malamig na panahon. Minsan umiiral ang northeast monsoon," Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio.
She said temperatures are still cold in Baguio and parts of Northern Luzon, which the northeast monsoon still affects.
But Enriquez said they see no cyclone near Philippine territory at this time.
"So far wala talaga tayong nakikitang umaaligid sa ating kapuluan," she said.
On Wednesday, Filipinos started the Lenten season by having their foreheads dabbed with ash.
