Tight security readied for Arroyo arraignment Thursday

February 22, 2012 2:02pm
Police have readied tight security for the arraignment of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo before a Pasay court this Thursday.

The Metro Manila police will also limit the movements of media covering the event at the Pasay City Hall of Justice, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

Arroyo, now a congresswoman representing the second district of Pampanga, is to be arraigned on charges of electoral sabotage in connection with the alleged irregularities in the 2007 midterm elections. She had been under hospital arrest since Nov. 18 for her bone disorder.

Metro Manila police spokesman Superintendent Danilo Pecana said space will be limited for members of the media at the courtroom, which is located at the third floor.

Pecana said media can occupy only the open ground or perimeter, the report said.

He added the Philippine National Police's Public Information Office and Metro Manila police's regional PIO will assist media at the main entrance of the Pasay Hall of Justice.

Media should be at the venue no later than 6:30 a.m. for registration and briefing, he added.

Tight security measures

Meanwhile, the police will deploy personnel at the route from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City where the former President has been confined, to the Pasay court.

The PNP Police Security Protection Group (PSPG), which deals with VIPs, will take care of arrangements of the convoy while the Pasay police will take care of the security at the building and surroundings. — KBK, GMA News
