PAGASA: Despite 'improved' weather, NCR to have rain showers

February 23, 2012 7:28am
Despite the "improved" weather following the weakening of the tail-end of a cold front, afternoon and evening rains may loom over Metro Manila and parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas, state weather forecasters said Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration also said the cold front may bring scattered rain to Northern Luzon, while winds from the east may bring rain to Mindanao.

"Pagdating ng hapon o gabi sa Metro Manila, kasama sa Central at Southern Luzon at Visayas, ‘yan may possibility magkaroon ng ulan," PAGASA forecaster Gener Quitlong said in an interview on dzBB radio.

But he said Northern Luzon including Batanes and Mindanao will have greater chances of rain due to the diffused tail-end of a cold front and the easterlies.

Still, he reiterated the rain will not be due to any cyclone or weather disturbance.

"Wala tayong namamataang anumang bagyo o sama ng panahon na makakaapekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa o Philippine area of responsibility," he said.

PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said the diffused tail-end of a cold front is affecting extreme Northern Luzon while the easterlies are prevailing over Mindanao.

"Extreme Northern Luzon and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said.

Light to moderate winds from the east to southeast will blow over Luzon, and coming from the east over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the country will be slight to moderate. –KG, GMA News
