At least five people were arrested while 400 kilos of tainted meat were seized in Manila's Tondo district before dawn Thursday.

 

Teams from the Manila Police District and Manila Veterinary Inspection Board made the seizure at the Vitas area, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

 

Senior Inspector Elmer Vergara of the MPD said they were acting on a tip from a concerned citizen that the meat would be dropped off near a gas station near Road 10 in Tondo.

 

For his part, Dr. Joey Diaz of the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board said they conducted surveillance on the suspects' activities for two weeks.

 

The report said authorities identified four of the five arrested as Emiliano Ponseca, Alvin Abbas, Josie Concepcion and Marvin Bruno. The fifth, a minor, was identified only as Ariel.

 

All five suspects were from Bulacan province, the report added. –KG, GMA News
