Hazing victim's remains now on way to Isabela
The remains of a law student who died from hazing last weekend were brought out of the San Beda College in Manila before dawn Thursday, to be brought to his home province of Isabela.
Relatives of Marvin Reglos cried for justice as his remains were removed from the San Beda Chapel, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.
Marvin died last weekend, allegedly while undergoing hazing rites of the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity in Antipolo City.
His mother Myrna, an overseas Filipino worker based in Korea, had returned to the country before dawn Thursday to get a last glimpse of her son.
The victim's remains had been brought to the San Beda Chapel Wednesday but were briefly brought out for a re-autopsy. The remains were brought back there 11 p.m. Wednesday.
It added Marvin's family agreed to have the remains displayed at the chapel to let students see the brutality of hazing.
Marvin was a student at the San Beda College of Law, which condemned his brutal death and has started its own investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the San Beda College of Law also vowed to cooperate with the probe conducted by the Philippine National Police and National Bureau of Investigation.
"The administration of the San Beda College of Law and the Law Student Government have already constituted a committee to conduct the investigation of the administrative aspect. We will fully cooperate in the investigation of the NBI and PNP," it said.
The San Beda College of Law also said it "condemns the system of brotherhood that employs violence, intimidation, intentional force, or reckless imprudence as part of any of its ceremonies or practices."
Marvin’s schoolmates likewise expressed outrage over his death and called for justice.
On Wednesday, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima directed the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a parallel investigation into the death of Marvin. –KG, GMA News
