Child hurt in escalator accident in Caloocan mall

February 23, 2012 8:21am
A seven-year-old boy was reported hurt in a freak accident in a Caloocan City mall Wednesday night, where his hand was caught in an escalator.

The boy was stuck for four hours at the mall before rescuers could free his hand, according to a report on dzBB radio early Thursday.

Making matters worse was that the mall guards initially refused to let in rescue teams, the report said.

A separate report on "Saksi" said the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m., where the boy's aunt said she took him to the mall so he can play in the play area there.

But while riding the escalator, the boy allegedly tripped and his hand got caught in the escalator.

Another report on dzXL radio said the child suffered injuries in the left arm and was brought to the Manila Central University Hospital.

The dzXL report said rescue teams had to cut off parts of the escalator just to free the child's arm. — LBG, GMA News
