6 civilians die in armed attack on sitio in Zamboanga del Sur
Armed men attacked residents of Sitio Bihing of Barangay Tininghalang in Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur Thursday—leaving six civilians dead and an undetermined number of wounded—according to the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang said there were 10 suspects and their leader was identified as Amie Andi whose group fired upon residents of Sitio Bihing at about 4:30 p.m.
He said among the wounded were children.
Cabangbang noted that the residents who were fired upon are relatives of a government militiaman, identified only by his surname, Tayabag, and assigned to the 5th Infantry Battalion.
The military spokesman said Tayabag guided Lapuyan police in an operation on last Feb. 11 that led to the capture of Andi’s brother, Samang.
