Eleven people, nine of them foreigners, were sentenced to life imprisonment after a Cebu court found them guilty of operating a mega-shabu laboratory in Mandaue City in the province eight years ago.

Judge Marilyn Yap convicted 11 of the 12 suspects in a 277-page decision, according to a report on radio dzBB.

Found guilty were:
  • drug manufacturer Calvin de Jesus Tan
  • Joseph Yu
  • Siew Kin Weng
  • Liew Kam Song
  • Lin Li Ku
  • Bao Xiafu
  • Wu Tiao Yi
  • Tao Fei
  • Liu Bo
  • Allan Yap Garcia
  • Joseph Lopez
The 11 were also fined P10 million each, while the foreign nationals included in the case – Tan, Siew, Lin, Bao, Wu, Tao, and Liu – will be deported after they serve their sentences.

Acquitted was Hung Chin Chang, a.k.a. Simon Lao, who turned state witness. Hung is a British national who was arrested along with 10 of the convicts in a raid in 2004.

Authorities seized 675 kilos of high-grade methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) worth some P1.3 billion in the raid. — LBG, GMA News
