Former activist and Agrarian Reform Secretary Horacio "Boy" Morales Jr. died on Wednesday, two months after suffering a heart attack while playing golf in Baguio City. He was 68.

A report on GMA News TV said former President Joseph Estrada confirmed the death of Morales, who was Estrada’s campaign strategist and agrarian reform secretary.

Morales was born in Tarlac on Sept. 11, 1943. He joined the Communist Party of the Philippines in the 1970s and he became an active member of the underground movement until his arrest in 1982.

He ran for senator shortly after the EDSA-1 People Power revolution but lost in the election.

Condolences started coming from fellow militant leaders, including Bagong Alyansang Makabayan secretary-general Renato Reyes Jr.

"RIP (rest in peace), our friend Boy Morales, nakasama namin sa paglaban kay GMA (Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo)," Reyes tweeted.

Morales was in critical condition at Notre Dame de Chartes Hospital in Baguio since he suffered a heart attack during a golf tournament in December. — VS, GMA News
