March 2, 2012 7:34am
With summer now here, the Philippine National Police has started drawing up plans to secure tourists heading for popular vacation spots at this time of the year.

The PNP has adopted "It's more fun and safe in the Philippines" as the theme for its Oplan Summer Vacation 2012, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said they are ready to protect both local and foreign tourists during the summer months.

Cruz said PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome gave strict orders to secure vacationers now that many Filipinos will be in vacation mode this summer.

Filipinos and foreign tourists are expected to flock to beaches and parks, including renowned spots like Boracay and the Palawan Puerto Princesa Underground River.

On the other hand, the Department of Tourism has been aggressive in attracting tourists from abroad to the Philippines. –KG, GMA News
