176 seafarers trained under PHL-Netherlands project
In a news release on the DOLE website, Labor Secretary and Maritime Training Council (MTC) Chairperson Rosalinda Baldoz announced the successful completion of the project.
She said the “Training for Instructors, Assessors and Technical Inspectors/External Verifiers for the Management Level Course (MLC) for Deck and Engine Officers” provided trianing for 50 instructors, 49 assessors, and 77 technical Inspectors/external verifiers.
"The last batch of training under the project was conducted last February 6-10 at the Marlow Navigation Center. I wish to extend my appreciation to the Dutch government, through their Embassy here in Manila, for its support to this training for MLC instructors, assessors and technical inspectors/external verifiers, and I commend all the trainees for their cooperation and able participation," Baldoz said.
“With the future in mind, the Netherlands government is confident that this training exercise will enhance the capacities and knowledge of maritime providers and will contribute in building the competence of Filipino seafarers, making them invaluable manpower resources in the international shipping industry, including especially for the Dutch fleet,” added Ruth Emerink, Deputy Head of Mission of the Dutch Embassy in Manila.
Baldoz said the Philippines and the Netherlands share a common goal to continue the training and deployment of competent and world-class seafarers from the Philippines.
With an agreement between the Minister for European Affairs and International Cooperation of Netherlands and the DOLE last September, the Dutch government granted financial assistance for additional MLC training.
The first training sessions for MLC instructors was held on October 26 to 28 last year, followed by a training program for MLC Assessors on November 10 to 12.
A third training program, this time for MTC’s inspectors and external verifiers for the MLC, was conducted on November 24 to 26.
A combined training seminar for MLC instructors and assessors was held on January 16 to 20 and February 6 to 10. - VVP, GMA News
