By 2013, Nissan's high-end Infiniti vehicles may share a feature with today's netbooks: multitasking courtesy of Intel's Atom chip.

Intel and Nissan have revealed such an in-car infotainment system in its Infiniti LE concept car at the New York Auto Show, tech site Mashable reported.

"(F)or example, the driver could receive traffic or navigation information, while feeding a movie to the passengers at the same time," the website said.

Another potential feature may include the ability to control some aspects of the vehicle with a smartphone with near-field communication (NFC).

The Mashable report cited the possibility of an NFC-enabled phone interacting with the car's computer to let the driver enter without a key.

It said another possibility is the car sending a notification to the owner’s smartphone after another car bumps into it in a parking lot.

"We can expect to see these features in high-end Infiniti vehicles, beginning in 2013," Mashable concluded. – AMD, GMA News
