Skype now available for Windows Phone

Finally, users of phones running Microsoft’s Windows Phone can avail of popular videoconferencing service Skype from their devices, with a new Skype app for the platform.
 
In a blog post, Skype said the app is now available for download in the Windows Phone Marketplace, or may be downloaded directly from a Windows Phone.
 
“With Skype on your Windows Phone, you can join the thriving community of 200 million people using Skype every month across almost any screen: smartphones & tablets (running Android, iOS, and Symbian), computers and laptops (Mac, Windows) and connected TVs,” it said.
 
Skype said the app is available for use on 4G, 3G and WiFi networks, can allows “affordable” calls to landlines and mobiles using Skype Credit.
 
Users can also create and hold one-to-one and group chats even while in the middle of a call, and update their profiles and account information.
 
Skype said it has also added new features such as video calling in portrait mode and friend management capabilities such as invite, accept invitations, block, and unblock contacts.
 
Skype for Windows Phone is also now available in 18 languages: English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, and Traditional Chinese.
 
The app has been tested and certified for the following Windows Phone devices:

  • Nokia Lumia 800
  • Nokia Lumia 900
  • HTC Titan
  • HTC Radar
  • Samsung Focus S
