La Salle evened its record to 1-1 while Letran suffered its second loss for a 1-2 slate. Former Xavier School standout Jeron Teng scattered 15 points to lead four other Green Archers scored that scored in double digits. Big men Yutien Andrada and Norbert Torres combined for 25 points and 20 rebounds while transferee guard Mark Tallo and forward Jovet Mendoza tallied 10 markers each. The Knights remained in contention for three and a half quarters until the Green Archers pulled away in the fourth period behind a pivotal 11-5 run. Andrada made nine points in that telling run. Letran's Kevin Alas drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 79-71 with one minute and 39 seconds left to play. Another Tallo basket on the other end put the game out of the Knights' reach. Alas and Jam Cortez led all scorers with 16 points apiece with the former dishing out five assists while the latter grabbed 11 rebounds in a losing effort. Mark Cruz opened the game with a three-pointer but Letran went cold in the next three minutes as La Salle rattled off eight straight points forcing Knights coach Louie Alas to call a timeout. Letran, after the timeout, held La Salle to one field goal in a five-minute stretch, a Luigi Dela Paz three-pointer. Alas, after La Salle making 4-of-10 free throws, made six points in the first quarter to keep Letran within two, 19-17. Cruz' fadeaway three-pointer tied the game at 23-all in the second quarter. La Salle answered with a 7-2 run for a 30-25 advantage with 5:48 to play before the half time break. Cortes led a Letran 14-6 rally for a 39-36 lead but La Salle scored five points, including an Almond Vosotros buzzer-beating three-pointer, for a 41-all count at the turn. Cortes led the Knights' scoring in the fourth where he scored 12 of his 16 markers. Both teams and their fans offered a minute of silence for the passing of former Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman and La Salle president Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC, who died Thursday, before the start of the second half. — JVP, GMA NewsScores:La Salle 80—Teng 15, Andrada 13, N Torres 12, Tallo 10, Mendoza 10, Vosotros 6, Dela Paz 5, Webb 4, T Torres 3, Gotladera 2, Tampus 0.
