1 killed in Marikina morning fire
A 67-year-old man died after being trapped in his house when a fire hit a residential compound in Marikina City early Monday.
The victim's body was found by volunteer firefighters who were conducting mopping-up operations after the fire had been placed under control, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
The victim was trapped in the third floor of the house along Malaya Street in Malanday village in Marikina City.
The fire also damaged another house and a sari-sari store inside the compound, the report said.
"Ayaw po niyang bumaba eh. Kapatid ko nagsabi bumaba na, ayaw niyang bumaba," the victim's daughter said.
She added they panicked when they saw the fire reaching their house.
An initial investigation showed the fire started at one of the houses in the compound, and spread to the other houses. It reached the third alarm before it was placed under control before 7 a.m. — RSJ, GMA News
