San Sebastian College aims to secure at least a playoff berth when it takes on defending champion and early semifinalist Ateneo on Thursday in the Shakey's V-League Season 9 first conference at The Arena in San Juan City. Struggling teams Far Eastern University and Adamson also seek to secure a playoff spot when they take on winless teams University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and National U in separate matches. A San Sebastian (2-1) win will endanger the playoff bids of FEU and Adamson. The Lady Eagles are already assured of a Final Four berth with an immaculate 5-0 record but the Katipunan-based squad is determined to keep their momentum going in their bid to clinch another V-League crown. Lady Stags resident guest player Jeng Bualee and Ateneo counterpart Lithawat Kesinee are out to neutralize each other in a duel of Thai imports, with the locals hoping to do their share. Ateneo holds a slight edge against San Sebastian as Alyssa Valdez, Angeline Gervacio, Fille Cainglet, Gretchen Ho and Jem Ferrer are playing cohesively since the elimination round. On the Lady Stags side, Joy Benito is expected to step up in this key match-up along with Dafna Robinos, Karen Bernano, Rubie de Leon and Ara Mallare with support from Mae Crisostomo, Joy Corpuz, Bea Uy and Jolina Labiano. — JVP, GMA News
