San Sebastian's resident guest player Jaroensri Bualee scored 30 points but failed to lead the Lady Stags to victory as the Ateneo Lady Eagles scored a four-set 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19 win in the Shakey's V-League Season 9 first conference quarterfinals at The Arena in San Juan City Thursday. The Lady Eagles, who beat Adamson on Tuesday to clinch the first semifinals berth, earned their sixth straight win and in the process stalled the Lady Stags' march to the Final Four round. San Sebastian slipped to 2-2 and needs to win two of their remaining three games to secure a semis berth. Ateneo Thai import Lithawat Kesinee paced the Lady Eagles with 21 points but the locals of the Katipunan-based squad, led by Angeline Gervacio, outscored their counterparts to complete the win. Gervacio had another solid performance to finish with 17 points on 11 spikes, while Alyssa Valdez tallied 15 markers on top of four service aces. Fille Cainglet scored 11 with Jem Ferrer coming up with 43 excellent set plays. No San Sebastian player reached double digits with Joy Benito and Rubie De Leon ending up with nine and eight markers each. Earlier, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod boosted its slim chances of entering the semifinals after a masterful 25-11, 25-22, 25-15 win over Far Eastern U. Sheryl Denila and Royce Quijano made 14 and 12 points apiece, while guest player Jovelyn Gonzaga tallied 11 markers. Gianes Dolar also turned in 11 points with Patty Orendain contributing 10 more. The Lady Tamaraws dropped to 1-4 to tie Adamson. — JVP, GMA News
