June 10, 2012 7:50am

An 18-year-old man was killed while nine people were hurt in a freak road accident in Quezon City before dawn Sunday.

The incident occurred at 3 a.m. near the corner of Araneta Avenue and Retiro Street in Quezon City, radio dzBB's Paulo Santos reported.

Killed on the spot was an 18-year-old initially identified as Gerald Valderan, the report said.

Nine people were injured, including the driver, who admitted they had attended a party where they had drunk some liquor.

An initial investigation showed a Pajero Sport-type vehicle (NSO-553) was cruising in the area when one of its tires allegedly exploded.

The vehicle went out of control and hit an electric post.

Seven of the injured were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment. — LBG, GMA News
