PHL rice inventory good for 79 days, says govt
Philippine rice inventory totaled 2.67 million metric tons (MT) as of May 1, up 1.4 percent from a month earlier, but down 21.3 percent from 3.4 million MT a year earlier, the Bureau of Agriculture Statistics (BAS) reported Tuesday.
The latest inventory is enough for 79 days, the BAS noted in its Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory report.
“Stocks in National Food Authority (NFA) depositories would be good for 20 days, while those in commercial warehouses would last for 24 days,” the BAS said. “Household stocks would last for 35 days,” it added.
NFA rice totaled 690,000 MT, down 52.7 percent from 1.46 million MT year-on-year, BAS data showed.
Rice in commercial warehouses totaled 800,000 MT, up 14.4 percent.
Households accounted for 1.18 million MT, down by 4.3 percent. —VS, GMA News
