Heavy rain, floods prompt class suspensions in parts of NCR, Rizal
(Updated 12:51 p.m.) - Heavy rain and floods since Sunday night prompted local government officials in parts of Metro Manila to suspend classes for Monday.
Local officials in some areas in Metro Manila cited the threat from high tide as another reason for suspending classes for the day.
In Malabon City, city public information officer Bong Padua said classes in public elementary and high schools were suspended for the day.
"Nakatanggap tayo sa monitoring natin na napakalakas ng ulan at may area na medyo binabaha na," Padua said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said they will leave it to private elementary schools whether to suspend classes for the day.
Under a new policy this year, local governments will now suspend or cancel classes due to bad weather, instead of the Department of Education (DepEd).
