Manila Water recently began the first phase of the P4.6-billion Rodriguez Water System project, which includes a new water treatment plant and water distribution mainline, the company said Tuesday.   The new system will be an alternate water treatment facility to the Balara Treatment Plant, which is currently the only water treatment plant in the East Zone.   It will be able to treat up to 150 million liters of water per day and will serve a population of over 940,000 and address the demand for reliable surface water supply in areas that are dependent on deep wells. These include Rodriguez and San Mateo in Rizal province, and some areas of Marikina City, the company said.   “This project marks our promise to bring excellent water quality and sufficient water pressure to our customers, especially to those who reside in elevated areas,” said Manila Water president Gerardo C. Ablaza, Jr.   “Providing safe and affordable water 24/7 to these communities will benefit the residents and support the area’s economic growth,” Ablaza added.   The project will also support Manila Water’s future expansion plans in other municipalities of Rizal, covering areas with high elevation and sloping terrains.   Full commissioning will start by July 15. The company has partly commissioned the system last June 4.   Manila Water is the private concessionaire of the Manila Water and Sewerage System for water and wastewater services in Manila’s east zone. —AL/VS, GMA News
