At least one person was killed while two were injured in a five-vehicle smashup in Quezon City early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at the corner of Congressional Avenue and Mindanao Avenue, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.

Killed was taxi driver Efren Tan, while Land Cruiser driver Jeremiah Recto and motorcycle driver Jimmy Macasaya were rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital.

Aside from the taxi, Land Cruiser and motorcycle, also involved in the smashup were a passenger jeep and a Toyota Vios.

An initial investigation showed the Land Cruiser was trying to beat a red light when it hit the taxi and the other vehicles.

The Land Cruiser was heading for Muñoz while the taxi was heading for Quirino Highway.

The report quoted hospital staff as saying there were indications the Land Cruiser driver was intoxicated. — LBG, GMA News
