Palace: Be patient on Dolphy’s National Artist award
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte on Sunday asked everyone to be patient and await the deliberations and recommendations of the National Commission on Culture and Arts regarding Comedy King Dolphy’s nomination for a Philippine National Artist award.
“At this point I think the NCCA has already issued an official statement that Dolphy is being considered, hintayin po nating makaabot, matapos yung proseso nila at makaabot sa Pangulong Aquino,” said Valte in an interview with Radyo ng Bayan.
She reiterated that Malacañang recognizes the contributions of Dolphy to the Philippine entertainment industry as well as his involvement in several civic oriented projects. His efforts were recognized in 2010 when he was awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart by President Aquino in 2010.
Valte said at the moment there are no plans for the President to visit Dolphy who remains confined at the Makati Medical Center where he is undergoing treatment including dialysis.
Sorsogon Bishop and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Permanent Council member Arturo Bastes joined calls for Malacañang to support the National Artist Award for Dolphy whom, they felt, was deserving of the title.
Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gueierez also joined the calls citing that Dolphy not only entertained the Filipinos but also imparted some good values in his films and programs. — DVM, GMA News
