Dubai court drops iPad theft case vs. Pinoy engineer
A Filipino engineer accused of stealing an Apple iPad tablet left by an Indian businessman aboard a plane in Dubai was cleared of the charges against him on Tuesday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance drop the case after the engineer reconciled with the Indian businessman, the news site Gulf News reported on Wednesday.
Gulf News said the engineer hugged his wife and daughter outside the courtroom after learning the case against him was dismissed.
He had obtained a written waiver from the businessman after he returned the iPad to him, the report added.
Court records showed the Indian businessman exposed the identity of the engineer through an application on Apple's cloud-based iCloud service.
The investigation showed that the Indian businessman's wife called the airline to inform them that the Filipino engineer had stolen the iPad and changed the owner's username and logged in.
The engineer was immediately dismissed from his job after the theft was discovered.
He pleaded guilty and sought mercy when he appeared in court.
Earlier, the Filipino admitted during questioning that when he went to check the aircraft following the flight, he found the iPad and took it. - VVP, GMA News
